Creating a lighter home in december

Hello Life Simplifier!

"I want things to feel lighter." That is something my clients have been telling me both in this season and in every season. The rush and hustle of mid December can get overwhelming, and on top of it I am supposed to take care of my home! If you are craving that feeling of lighter there is good news. You do not have to do a big reset to create that feeling.
Small, thoughtful shifts are often the most grounding.

Start With One December Reset

Choose a space that has been working hard lately. Maybe the entryway holding winter coats, the kitchen sink after holiday baking, or the nightstand where end of year thoughts tend to pile.

Clear it. Wipe it.
Give it five minutes of care and let it breathe.

One of my favorite tips is to set a timer, give yourself an end point. Whatever you get done in 5-10 minutes is great, if you keep going fine, if not you have made progress and that adds up.

This season does not ask for perfection.
It asks for presence.

Create Rhythms That Carry You Through the Season

Your home does not need complicated systems right now. It needs rhythms that feel grounding during busy weeks and winter energy.

Try simple anchors:

  • A five minute evening tidy

  • Wiping the counters while tea steeps

  • A Sunday evening reset with soft lighting

  • A midweek walk through to return things to their homes

These small rituals create steadiness in a season that otherwise moves quickly.

Now it is time to create space for you.

Choose One Corner to Make Cozy

Pick a corner that you use often. Your reading chair, your bedside, or the kitchen sink. Add something that brings a feeling of care.

A cozy blanket
A warm light.
A clean cloth.
A hot drink.

It does not need to be big to be beautiful.
One cared for corner can shift the energy of an entire home.

A few gentle essentials I reach for when I want my home to feel grounded in December:

These are not about adding more to your home.
They are about supporting a home that supports you during a full and beautiful season.

Your Home Should Support You Through the Holidays and Beyond

Simplicity in December is not about doing more.
It is about creating enough calm to enjoy the parts of the season that matter to you.
The conversations, the slow mornings, the moments with the people you love.

Your home can absolutely hold you with more ease.
Start with one small reset and let it ripple.
