Lets reset your laundry space

Hello Life Simplifier,

Laundry is one of those spaces we use constantly, but rarely stop to improve. It quietly collects clutter, random supplies, and things that don't belong until suddenly it feels frustrating every time you walk in.

The good news is a simple reset can make this hardworking space much easier to use every day.

Many laundry rooms serve more than one purpose. They often double as a mudroom, pantry overflow, storage space, or cleaning closet. Today, we're going to focus only on resetting the laundry and cleaning areas. Tackling the entire room isn't a simple reset—that's a bigger organizing project. Today, we're focusing on maintenance: creating a space that's easier to use and easier to keep up.

1. Start with a Clean Slate

Take everything off the shelves and out of cabinets.

Wipe surfaces.

Throw away empty containers.

Recycle old packaging.

Toss dried-up stain removers or products you no longer use.

2. Only Keep What You Actually Use

Ask yourself:

  • Do I actually use this product?

  • Is this a duplicate?

  • Is it expired?

  • Am I keeping this "just in case"?

Less product usually means less visual clutter.

3. Create Simple Zones

Examples:

  • Everyday detergent

  • Stain treatment

  • Dryer supplies

  • Cleaning cloths

  • Lost socks

  • Laundry baskets

  • Ironing supplies (if you actually iron)

4. Make the Most Used Items the Easiest to Grab

Store daily items between waist and shoulder height.

Reserve higher shelves for backups.

Heavy items belong lower.

The easier something is to put away, the more likely you'll actually do it.

5. Remove Things That Don't Belong

Laundry rooms often become catch-all spaces.

Return stray items to where they actually live.

6. Add One Thing That Makes You Smile

Not because you have to decorate. Not to clutter the space, but something that actually brings you joy.

Because laundry is repetitive.

Maybe that's:

  • a plant

  • a framed print

  • a nice basket

  • matching jars

  • better lighting

One small touch can make the room feel cared for.

You don't need a magazine-worthy laundry room.

You need one that's easy to maintain.

Small changes add up, and when your laundry space works well, one of life's most repetitive chores becomes just a little easier.

After all, the goal isn't a picture-perfect home. The goal is a home that's easy to reset.

This Week's Simple Reset

You don't have to reset your entire laundry room today.

Instead, choose just one small area:

  • One shelf

  • One cabinet

  • One drawer

  • One laundry basket

  • Or even just the top of the washer or dryer

Set a timer for 15–30 minutes and focus on making that one space easier to use. Toss anything that's empty or expired, return items that don't belong, and group similar items together.

When you're finished, take a moment to enjoy the difference. Small, consistent resets are what make a home feel easier to maintain over time.

Happy Simplifying!
